i imagine i wrote a poem with bill callahan's voice
i imagine i wrote a poem
sung with bill callahan's voice
it would sound mellow and fine
it would speak of simple things
like how there's always dressing left
after all the salad has gone
or how much beetroot stains
how sliced up they look like little veins
to hear it all with his voice
his ears are curiously arranged
i scratch my leg because i do
my fingers move, my eyes do, too
won't you give me some advice
now that i avail myself of your voice
indeed it has the most appeasing sound
won't you come, please lay me down
my mind, it craves a lullaby
tell me a tale of the eagle that flew by
of winter roads and summer lust
how you recognize now what once was
share an image of your dream
what all those furious pheasants mean
then leave me by the solid bay
as your ruminant voice purls gently
away
